Masala Fruit chaat is a colorful medley of fruits of different textures, flavors and colors. A bowl of fruit chaat is not only nutrient dense but brings on a refreshing burst of tangy and spicy flavors. This is a popular Indian snack or dessert.

Broadly describing Masala Fruit Chaat, is Fruit Salad with spice powders sans salad dressing.

Some common fruits that go into its making are apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries, oranges, papayas, peaches, pears, guavas and so forth. Make use of fruits that are seasonally available keeping in mind that the tanginess, sweetness and textures are all well balanced.

Fruits – Banana, nectarine, apple, grapes, pineapple, pear. You may use any other combination of seasonal fruits and also your preference.

Spice powders- chaat masala powder – is a blend of tangy & spicy spice powders; black salt, black pepper, roasted cumin powder.

Lime juice – is a must to prevent browning of the fruits

How to make Fruit Chaat At Home with step by step instructions

1. Firstly, wash and cut the fruits into small bite size pieces. You may remove the peel of nectarine and pear.

3. To this add salt, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala and black pepper powder as required.

5. Finally, sprinkle some lime juice to prevent the fruits from turning brown. Do not add too much since the spice powders too are tangy.

Tips for a perfect Fruit Salad Chaat

  • Use premium quality fruits. Wash them well.
  • Make the fruit chaat an hour ahead. Cover with cling wrap and place it in the refrigerator. Take it out 5 minutes before serving.
  • If you want to make it 2-3 hours ahead, then add a little of the masala powders and lime juice. Lime juice will prevent browning. Cover with cling wrap and place in the refrigerator. Take it out from the fridge just 5 minutes before serving. Toss it with some more masala powders and serve. A perfect fruit salad should be crisp and crunchy to look at and not mushy, brown and limp.
  • You could add fruits of your choice or according to seasonal availability.
