Masala Boondi Buttermilk is a very popular healthy and nourishing drink for beating the summers. The mint escalates its cooling effect and gives this chaach a very stimulating taste. The cumin seeds,  mint, and ginger used in Masala Boondi Chaach greatly enhance its taste. I grew up seeing my mother make at least two jugs of buttermilk daily during the scorching summers. We would enjoy this refreshing drink more than the meals.

Ingredients:

Curd/Yoghurt 1 cup
Chilled water 1 to 1.5 cup
Dried and powdered mint leaves 2 teaspoon
Ginger 1 teaspoon finely chopped/grated
Coriander leaves 1 teaspoon finely chopped
Roasted cumin(jeera) powder 1 teaspoon
Rock salt(kala namak) 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Masala boondi (store bought or home made)2 to 3 tablespoons

Method:

  1. Blend yoghurt and water in a jug till smooth and no lumps remain.
  2. Except for the masala boondi , add the rest of the ingredients to the curd water mixture and mix well.
  3. Cover and chill in the refrigerator.
  4. Just before serving, pour the buttermilk into glasses and add the masala boondi. Pour the buttermilk from some height to make a frothy buttermilk.

Neha, chaas is a daily part of our meal and sometimes want to try out different kind of flavours. I’ve not tried masala boondi chaas. With the herbs and spices and the boondi, definitely a different kind of healthy drink. Going to try this version of chaas.
