These Tortilla chips snack is a light crispy treat that’s just the right fuel to keep a chat going on. These crackling chips are a favorite among kids and almost all age groups. A bite into these wonderfully crispy chips can spruce up anyone’s day.
What are Nacho Chips
Nacho chips are triangular chips made from tortilla. These chips form the crunchy base of a Mexican dish, NACHOS, which is then covered with melted cheese as well as some toppings and garnishes such as meats like grilled meat or vegetables like lettuce and olives. Lastly , add some toppings salsa, guacamole, or sour cream on the top.
Nacho chips with cheese or salsa by itself make an excellent snack. While substantial portion of veggies or topping with the chips may yield a good main course.
Nacho chips made from masa
The word ‘masa’ means dough in Spanish and ‘harina’ denotes flour.
Traditionally, Nacho chips or Tortilla chips are made from masa harina which is an instantly-binding corn flour used for making the dough for tortilla. This dough is referred to as masa or masa dough.
Masa harina may not to available round the globe. The closest substitute is cornmeal or maize flour also known as Makki ka Atta in India. To this some all-purpose flour is added to make the chips light and crispy.

Maize flour – Use masa harina if available. Alternatively use cornmeal makki ka atta.
Refined flour – recommended to make thin and crisp chips
Olive oil for mixing in flour
Any cooking oil for deep-frying
Turmeric powder – to give a yellowish tinge. Optional
Salt – adjust as per preference
Chili flakes
Flavors – Cumin seeds & Carom Seeds OR Oregano powder
Lukewarm Water – to make dough

How to make Nacho Chips at Home
Making Dough for Nacho Chips
First of all, slightly warm the cumin seeds and carom seeds in a fry pan to release maximum flavors.
Secondly, combine maize flour, refined flour, salt, turmeric powder, chili flakes, cumin – carom seeds combination or oregano in a bowl and mix.
Add oil and mix well.
Then, add some warm water and knead into a firm dough.
Shaping and Frying Nacho Chips
Furthermore, heat sufficient oil in a pan.
Then roll out dough into a thin sheet.
To shape the nacho chips, firstly cut into four sections. Then cut out triangles from each strip. Prick with fork
Finally, deep-fry the nacho chips in hot oil till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
What to serve Nacho Chips with
Serve with Pico de Gallo, Salsa , herbed sour cream or Guacamole.
Tips for perfect Tortilla chips
Roll out the tortilla thin.
Fry on low to medium flame .
You can add onion powder or garlic powder while making the dough.

How to make gluten free nacho chips
Use only maize flour to make nacho chips gluten free. Omit all purpose flour.
How to bake nacho chips in oven
Bake in preheated oven at 180°C for 20 minutes or so depending on individual oven. Before baking brush all the chips on both sides with olive oil or regular cooking oil.
