Gajar ka Halwa stays good for two weeks or more if stored properly in the fridge or freezer and only serving portions are heated before eating. Carrot Halwa can also be made using khoya or condensed milk. Since this recipe uses generous quantity of milk , the taste of milk comes through and through in the carrots, hence khoya is not mandatory. When in hurry, one can make this Carrot Halwa in a pressure cooker or microwave. However the outcome of simmering the carrots with milk in the traditional way is always a rewarding one.
Make hay while the sun shines ….is an old proverb. So what are you waiting for ….. Grab some nice carrots now that they are in abundance and try out this recipe. It will be a worthwhile effort.

That's really nice to know that carrot halwa tastes equally good without milk. I will definitely try it out too.:)
I guess everyone's favorite winter dessert…this time my daughter made it even without milk…superb….just carrots ghee n sugar…
Lovely winter special dessert and a most popular one. You have made it so well. I use milk powder instead of milk. I shall try your recipe next time.
Many thanks. Adding milk powder as an alternative to milk is quite a good option. Will visit your blog for it and try it out.
Who can refuse a lovely tempting bowl of gajar halwa. Your preparation looks so yummy. Love the colour of the halwa. I too try and make it with milk as I don’t have khoya all the time.We too don’t get red carrots in Kenya, only orange ones so always use those to make halwa.
Truly agree with you! The taste of Gajar ka Halwa is so alluring that even the orange carrots can be substituted for the red carrots. Thanks for appreciating.

One of my all time favorite desserts, as they say all you need is a little patience and love.
You are absolutely correct! In this case patience pays off with the delectable Halwa that you can enjoy for a few days – the fruit of our efforts.
I have been behind mom to make this while we were kids, and your slow cooked version of GAjar Halwa is so enticing and decadent, Neha!
