What is Mango Milkshake
Mango Milkshake is a sweet drink made from milk, sweeteners, flavourings and mango. It is a blended thick, creamy, sweet and cold mixture. This is an easy and quick to make recipe. Mango shake tastes best with the seasonal juicy sweet mango varieties.
Best variety of mangoes for sweetness, richness and flavour is Alphonso. If not, then Safed or Badami. Ideally, mangoes for mango shakes should be sweet, flavourful and less fibrous.
Instead of honey or sugar you could add a wee bit rose syrup for sweetness and flavor. Yes it is the same rose syrup that you put in Rose Milk with Sabja
According to Ayurvedic food combinations, mango and milk are one of the compatible food combinations. So be assured that this Fresh Mango Shake recipe not only satiates your taste buds, but also aligns with Ayurveda principles of food combinations. Make sure that the mangoes must be ripe and sweet. Semi ripe or unripe mangoes will split milk and may lead to indigestion.
Ingredients for Mango Shake
Mango-Use seasonal ripe mangoes. These are sweet and juicy. Do not use semi-ripe, raw or unripe mangoes. Ripe mangoes will make the shake smooth and creamy. The colour will also be a deep yellow-orange one. If you use the unripe or semi=ripe mangoes, you may end up with a pale colour mango shake that requires lot of sugar. In some extreme cases, the milk may split. Dietician Drishti Parekh advises to consume mango shake only when mango is completely ripe.
Milk – Use chilled full-fat milk. If you think that mango shake made with full-fat milk is too heavy, try substituting with low-fat milk or adding some water as done in this recipe.
Honey – You only need a small amount of sweetener, such as honey, since we are using ripe sweet mangoes. You can use maple syrup or dates, but the natural mango flavour may be altered..
Cardamom– The flavour of cardamom powder goes very well. You may also use mango essence or cardamom essence. But natural flavours remain unbeatable and unrivalled.
Water– Use water if you want to tone down the thickness of mango shake.
Nuts– Nuts like almond and pistachio slivers are used for garnish.
